M2A Capsule Endoscopy
Southeast Idaho Gastroenterology is currently offering M2A Capsule Endoscopy to their patients.
The M2A Capsule is easily swallowed, travels painlessly through the digestive tract, and is naturally
passed from the body. On its journey, the M2A captures and transmits video images to a wearable recorder
worn by the patient. When the test is complete, the data is downloaded from the recorder to a computer
workstation where a physician can view the results.
The M2A Capsule is part of the GivenŽ Imaging Diagnostic Imaging System, which is intended for
visualization of the small bowel mucosa and is used as an adjunctive tool in the detection of abnormalities
of the small intestine.

How it Works
In addition to its clinical benefits, the Given Imaging system is very convenient for patients, with a simple, non-invasive process:
- Patients come into the office to take the capsule with a sip of water, just like a vitamin pill, they don the recorder belt and then go about their day as normal - no unpleasant preparation, no extended visit, no anesthesia.
- Patients come back to the office eight hours later to return the belt to the physician; the capsule passes naturally, with no need to retrieve it.
- Physicians download the images from the recorder belt and review them using the Given Imaging workstation and RAPID software. The resulting video report is viewed with features such as fast forwarding and freeze-framing, which allow for efficient viewing and analysis.
