This procedure is done to get a
piece of liver tissue for examination. It is generally
done with a special biopsy needle; only a small piece is
needed. After finding a good site for the biopsy, the
skin is cleaned and then numbed. The biopsy needle is
then inserted and the biopsy is obtained. You will then
lay still for a while having a nurse check your blood
pressure and heart rate. Some discomfort can come from
this test, but IV pain medication can be given if necessary.
