Gastric Feeding Tube

This procedure is done at the time of an esophagogastroduodenoscopy and is generally performed for people who have lost their ability to swallow normally. A flexible plastic tube is placed directly through the abdominal wall into the stomach. The doctor can see the tube from both the stomach side (through the scope) and the skin side. These feeding tubes are usually easy to place, but some people's anatomy may not allow this approach. The tube is easy to take care for and, when no longer needed, easy to remove in the office.
