Anorectal Manometry

This simple test is to evaluate the reflexes, muscles and nerves of the anus and rectum. The test is usually ordered for evaluation of severe constipation, fecal incontinence, chronic anal fissures, and on occasion pre-operative before anorectal surgery or hysterectomy. After one enema, a small catheter is inserted into the rectum and measurements are taken. It is a very quick and painless test.
